Your 5-Stage Strategy
1. Opening: Get Permission (10 seconds)
Be direct. Use one specific fact about the company to show you're not a spam call. The bots and spam are out of control these days. Show you are not that.
- Script: "Hi, is this [Hiring Manager's Name]? This is Bernard [Last Name]. I know you folks hire entry-level HVAC techs for service and light install work. I bring certified, hands-on talent for those roles, but I'm not sure if you need help right now. Got a few minutes to see if it makes sense?"
2. Get the Lay of the Land (1 minute)
Start asking questions. Your goal is to get information, not give it.
- Question 1: "Thanks. Just curious, what kind of service calls or installs are keeping your team busy these days?"
- Follow-up: "How long has your crew been set up that way, with [X number of techs or their current size]?"
3. Find the Pain Point (2 minutes)
Every job site has a problem. Your job is to find the leak and make them feel the cost of it.
- Question 1: "It sounds okay. But if you could change one thing about finding or training entry-level techs, what is the biggest headache?"
- Probe deeper: "Why does that one thing keep slowing you down?"
- Agitate impact: "Since that's been happening for [time they mention], has it hit call-out times or burned out the rest of the crew? What's the real cost of that problem?"
4. Deliver the Cure (1 minute)
They told you the problem. You are the specific solution.
- Question 1: "Got it. What's the perfect entry-level hire look like to fix that specific headache?"
- Transition to You: "Based on that, my EPA Universal Certification and experience with basic diagnostics can fix your [specific challenge they mentioned], which means I jump right into service calls without needing constant supervision. Does that sound like the help you need?"
5. Secure the Bag (1 minute)
Create urgency and ask for the next step.
- Consequence: "If you don't find someone for that specific problem soon, what happens next with those [impact they mentioned, e.g., call-out delays]?"
- Close softly: "Would you mind if I sent my resume over and we set up 15 minutes to talk about how I can solve that for you?"
